Sustainable Stage took place in September, a day of live performances from local talent!
A successful event
Last month, in partnership with Rugby Art Gallery and Museum, we supported our Rugby Youth Board to co-produce their own event.
Sustainable Stage took place on Saturday 20th September at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum and was an amazing day of live performances from local bands, musicians, and poets.

Initial workshops
‘They explored what they felt was on offer now and what they would like to be on offer in terms of arts, culture and creativity in their area.’
It all started with our Arts Ambassador workshops which took place in Rugby with over 100 young people, in various schools and community settings.
Through these workshops, the young people discovered what skills they might already possess to be ambassadors for the arts and shared their visions for the creative future of Rugby.

The Rugby Youth Board
‘Many of the requests were that there be more platforms for young people in Rugby to perform.’
Following the workshops, 16-18 year olds were invited to join a brand new Rugby Youth Board.
From July, they began meeting weekly to learn skills to enable them to produce arts events. They learnt about budgeting, programming, contracting, marketing and communications, health and safety, accessibility and sustainability.

They also examined the lists of the visions for Rugby’s creative future that the Arts Ambassadors had created. They added their own visions and chose their first project.
Our Rugby Youth Board are: Angle Evans, Charlie Sobalski, Emily Harrison, Ivy McBeath, Jacob McFadden, Matilda Clarke, and Tom Davies.
Choosing a mission
Many of the Arts Ambassador requests were that there be more platforms for young people in Rugby to perform and the Rugby Youth Board were keen for this as well.

Working with Rugby Art Gallery and Museum staff and our Shout Out for the Arts Coordinator, the Board decided to co-produce their first event… Sustainable Stage.
The logo for the Youth Board and the poster for their first project, Sustainable Stage, was designed by Charlie, one of the members of the Rugby Youth Board.

The Youth Board were hands-on on the day too, of course – taking control of the event they had produced.
