Young people in Nuneaton & Bedworth are unlocking their creative potential through a week of events that inspire pathways into arts jobs.
A careers learning day for college students, an art gallery takeover, an epic networking conference, a street art project and much more. Young people of Nuneaton & Bedworth have been working hard and are finally proud to present… their Creative Careers Week 2024.
Kicking off the week on 18th November, young people at King Edward VI College will take part in a learning day, organised by students at the college. A board of passionate individuals have produced a series of careers events that will give them and their peers the opportunity to attend workshops with the likes of Run Home Productions. During the day they will learn about apprenticeships and gain hands-on skills experience in filmmaking.

On 22nd November, as part of Kids in Museums Takeover Day, another group of young people will take over GRIT Art Central, transforming it into their own gallery. Their showcase will exhibit street art murals, designed by students from Park Lane Primary School in Nuneaton, plus art from young emerging artists in the borough will also be revealed. – George Richards, Advaith Srivathsa, Becky Tuffin, Reuben Miller-Jenkins and Imogen Miller-Jenkins. Artists from the school have created pieces that respond to the question – “if you could design a mural to share your vision of a creative borough, past present and future, what would it look like?”. The grand opening is 4pm-6pm which includes talks with the young exhibitors, professional artist Alisha Miller and arts organisation Compton Verney.
“At this event, the young people will showcase their work and share their experience of what it was like curating an exhibition – they will talk about their own artistic work and journeys, plus discuss their hopes for the future of art in Nuneaton & Bedworth.”

A major highlight of Creative Careers Week is a networking day which is open to anyone aged 16-29. This exciting meet-up at The Abbey Theatre on 23rd November will see all eyes on the creativity and talent of young people in the area. Anyone interested in film, art, photography, drawing or drama can attend – they will meet like-minded people, join interactive activities, develop skills and get advice for future creative jobs.
“This is a great opportunity for young people – to explore and develop their creative side, meet people and also consider a creative career.”
Advaith, Youth Board, Shout Out for the Arts
Last, but by no means least, the week will include the launch of the Bedworth Mural Project. Students at Nicholas Chamberlain School in Bedworth will work with an internationally-known street artist Nathan Parker to design and create a large-scale art mural for their town centre. It will mirror its sister project which took place in Nuneaton earlier this year (pictured below).

Creative Careers Week 2024 has been produced by young people. Various Youth Boards and Young Arts Ambassadors across the borough have been busy behind the scenes making this week happen.
These are their ideas, this is their leadership, this is THEIR creative week, THEIR borough.
”Shout Out for the Arts is the first youth-led organisation of its kind in the UK. That means we exist to allow young people to take the lead in terms of decisions made about the arts in their area. They aren’t just attending careers events – this entire week was theirs in the making. They deserve to take credit for everything programmed, as well as their ambitious, hopeful and creative ideas for the future of this borough. We hope you can join us for this celebration of young artistic talent in Nuneaton & Bedworth.”
